Inspired by the evergreen star Rekha Ji, I’ve recreated her iconic pyramid-shaped potli bag that she gracefully styled at Anant and Radhika Ambani’s wedding. Here’s how you can make it:
1. Take velvet fabric: Choose a rich, luxurious velvet fabric in the color of your choice.
2. Use intricate laces:Select some beautiful, intricate laces that you already have at home to decorate the bag.
3. Prepare the base and triangles: Cut foam sheets to the size of the base and four triangles. This will give the bag its pyramid shape and make it stiff.
4. Attach the foam sheets to the fabric: Cover the foam pieces with the velvet fabric, securing them tightly with glue or stitching.
5.Sew the pieces together:Join the triangles to the base and to each other to form the pyramid shape. Since I didn’t have a sewing machine, I hand-stitched it, but you can always seek the help of your master ji for extra strength and durability.
6. Add a handle:Attach a handle to the top of the pyramid for carrying.
7. Decorate with a flower:Add the iconic flower at the bottom of the bag for that elegant touch.
8. Insert a zip: Sew a zip at one end of the bag for easy access and to keep your belongings secure.
The Ambani wedding is finally over, but with the festive season beginning next month, this DIY potli bag is a useful accessory you can pair with traditional attire to add grace to your festivals. 🌸
